About Those Abandoned Ferris Wheels (and Titan Rocket) in Tennessee

Like a beacon along Interstate 75 in northern Tennessee, two rusty Ferris wheels and a mock Titan rocket still command attention from passing motorists. They were constructed for Patriotic Palace, a local fireworks and souvenir store behind a truck stop. Across the interstate was another Ferris wheel that lit up at night and advertised a local fairground.
Patriotic Palace, which had been operating since 2008, burned to the ground on July 6, 2014. The grounds are almost all but abandoned today.
There was once an amusement park on the east side of I-75 north of Jacksboro TN, called Coal Town USA. It is still visible on Google Earth even though it is now an explosives plant and posted as “No Trespassing – Federal Prosecution”. If you look closely, you can see where the Kings Island sized train went through a tunnel under the west end of the parking lot.
